Wax by Gina Damico

This wacky tale of small town horror takes place in Paraffin, Vermont, the home of the world-famous Grosholtz Candle Factory and Poppy Palladino, who was recently humiliated during a nationally televised talent contest. Now her schoolmates won’t let her forget it. When her nemesis Blake finds an exact wax replica of her and uses it to embarrass her, she vows revenge. When she gets to the wax factory, she meets a woman who warns her of a nefarious plot against the town. Now Poppy has to persuade her friends that townspeople are systematically being replaced by wax duplicates. With the help of Dud, a wax figure who comes to life, Poppy works to foil the villains. Dud’s bumbling lack of knowledge of the real world and Poppy’s dry sense of humor make this imaginative twist on an Invasion of the Body Snatchers a laugh-out-loud read.
